Restylane and Perlane are essentially the same product, Perlane is simply a larger dosage. These dermal ‘fillers’ have a long record of success with more than 1,500,000 treatments performed in over 60 countries worldwide. Utilising naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, these treatments can restore natural volume, dramatically smooth some scars, wrinkles, and deep folds, enhance facial contours for fuller cheeks, chin or be used for lip augmentation.

No skin test is necessary for these treatments. Tiny amounts of the clear gel are injected using a micro needle. Treatment rarely takes longer than 30 minutes and results are instantaneous. Generally pain is minimal, no sedation or local anaesthetic is required, when used on the lips a local anaesthetic is often used. You can resume normal activities immediately. Common injection-related reactions may occur such as swelling, redness, tenderness at the implant sight. These typically resolve within 1–2 days and within in a week of injection into the lips.

The amount of time the effects last can vary. It very much depends on factors such as age, lifestyle, the structure of the skin, and the degree of perfection required. Most patients however choose to have a further treatment within a year as the hyaluronic acid in both products, being a natural substance, dissolves and is absorbed over time. Being larger in size, Perlane takes longer to dissipate than Restylane. With lip treatment, follow up may be required within 6 months.
